Geelong v Western Bulldogs – First Preliminary Final at the MCG
· Geelong has won the inside 50 count in all but four games this season. It has averaged eight more per game than the Bulldogs in its past 11 games against them.
· Geelong beat the Bulldogs by 61-points at Skilled Stadium in round 16. The Bulldogs took it up to them in the first half, as the scores were level at both the quarter time and half time breaks. It was a different story in the second half though as the Cats kicked 13 goals to three.
· Darren Milburn has averaged 23 disposals, seven marks and three rebound 50s in his past eight games against the Bulldogs. He finished with 32 disposals and nine marks against them in round 16 earlier this season – with 19 of his disposals coming in the opening term.
· The Bulldogs had 70 effective long kicks against the Swans last week – the most by any team in any game this season.
· Matthew Boyd finished with a team-high 33 disposals last week against the Swans. He has now averaged 26 disposals, four clearances and three inside 50s in his four career finals.
Hawthorn v St Kilda – Second Preliminary Final at the MCG
· Hawthorn has lost the inside 50 count in just two games of its 23 games so far this season. It broke even with the Saints in the inside 50 count in round 16 this year.
· Hawthorn has had a disposal efficiency of 80 per cent since round 19 – ranked No.1 in the competition in that time while St Kilda ranks second.
· In the past four games, Jordan Lewis has had more kicks, marks, effective kicks, looseball-gets, uncontested possessions and inside 50s than any other Hawthorn player.
· St Kilda has won six of its past seven games against the Hawks, winning the contested possession count in each of those wins and breaking even in the loss.
· Sam Gilbert finished with 20 disposals, 12 marks and a team-high 11 contested possessions against the Magpies last week. In round 16 against the Hawks last season, he dominated, finishing with 22 disposals, 12 marks and six rebound 50s.
