WEST Coast is set to reward the form of second-year midfielder Dom Sheed with a new deal.
The 20-year-old, who this week became the Eagles' first NAB AFL Rising Star nominee since 2011, falls out of contract at the end of this year.
But discussions are soon to ramp up for Sheed, with a two-year extension on the cards which would see the Subiaco product remain at the club until at least the end of 2017.
Eagles football manager Craig Vozzo told AFL.com.au the club would meet with Sheed's manager Paul Connors later this month.
"We commenced discussions with his management a little time back now, and they're progressing well. We don't expect it will be too much longer before we have an outcome," Vozzo said.
"I think Paul's coming over here later in the month so [we're] hoping to catch up at that point."
Sheed has played 12 games this season and has averaged 19 disposals as a member of West Coast's dominant midfield unit.
He gathered a career-high 26 touches and kicked a goal last week against Adelaide to earn the Rising Star nomination after stringing together strong performances.
Several clubs moved early to secure their top-end talent from the 2013 draft by offering deals last year, but Sheed (who was pick No.11 that year) is one of a handful of players yet to sign on for 2016.
Greater Western Sydney midfielder Josh Kelly and St Kilda youngster Jack Billings agreed to contract extensions last year, while fellow top-five picks Marcus Bontempelli (Western Bulldogs) and Kade Kolodjashnij (Gold Coast) also signed on with their clubs.
Brisbane Lions' No.7 pick James Aish is waiting until the end of the year before making a decision on his future, but has been linked to a number of Victorian clubs.
Collingwood is also yet to re-sign its pair of top-10 selections, Matt Scharenberg and Nathan Freeman, with both yet to debut at AFL level after injuries.
Scharenberg wants to wait until he starts playing in the seniors before properly beginning talks, while discussions with Freeman are likely to be held back until later in the season as the midfielder recovers from hamstring surgery.
Richmond's No.12 pick Ben Lennon is also set to wait until the end of the season before talks progress about his next deal, after breaking into the Tigers' line-up just once this year.
The talented half-forward has picked up some good form in the VFL in the past fortnight and will be hoping to add to his eight senior games in the back-end of the season.
Billy Hartung, who has become a regular member of Hawthorn's team this year, is edging closer to a new deal with the club, which is likely to be two years.
The speedy wingman has played 11 games this season after seven in his debut year, adding brilliant run to the Hawks' line-up. He was the starting substitute in last Sunday's win over Fremantle.
