MELBOURNE will unveil mid-season draftee Kyle Dunkley and has recalled forgotten veteran Jordan Lewis for Sunday's meeting with a rejuvenated Carlton at the MCG.

Meanwhile, high-profile St Kilda recruit Dan Hannebery's return to AFL ranks has been short-lived, with the former Swan managed due to soreness after only two games in his new colours.

Dunkley, the brother of Western Bulldogs young gun Josh, was snared by the Demons at pick three in the first mid-year rookie draft in 26 years in late May.

The 19-year-old will become Melbourne's sixth debutant in a nightmare year, while Lewis has been recalled for just his fifth appearance and first since round eight.

Strong-marking Tim Smith (calf) and Oskar Baker (omitted) make way, while star ruckman Max Gawn has been named despite doubts over his rolled ankle.

The Blues' only change is to bring in ex-Geelong runner Darcy Lang to replace injured tall forward Charlie Curnow (knee) after a rousing win over Fremantle in the west.

Carlton has won two of three games under interim coach David Teague and could leapfrog the Demons on the ladder with a fourth victory for the campaign.

The Saints are feeling the heat at 6-8 and face a trip to Hobart to face the Kangaroos without Hannebery, whose body was "rebuilt" after an injury-interrupted start at Moorabbin.

"It was always part of the plan that Dan would need a break at some point after an initial block of games and, with a bit of soreness lingering after the Richmond match, it made sense to do it this week," Saints' performance manager Matt Hornsby said.

"He was able to get through our main training on Thursday, but we feel that missing this weekend is the best approach as we continue to build his workload.

"He has come a long way over the past few months but it's important we are patient and realistic in our expectations with a player who is returning mid-season."

Midfield runner Jack Newnes has earned a reprieve after a week in the VFL.

North Melbourne has replaced injured debutant Kyron Hayden (Achilles) with Paul Ahern after thrashing Collingwood last round and can keep the late push for the top eight going with a fifth win from six games.

In Sunday's final match, Greater Western Sydney won't have dashing onballer Lachie Whitfield for the huge clash with the Lions, after he was initially part of the squad but then withdrawn following a month on the sidelines recovering from a broken collarbone.

Bullocking ruckman Shane Mumford (managed) has been replaced by Dawson Simpson in the Giants' only change, with exciting small forward Ian Hill overlooked for a debut.

The match at Giants Stadium has major implications on the top four, with GWS holding on ahead of the fifth-placed Lions only by percentage.

Brisbane has lost ruckman Oscar McInerney to injury and dropped Brandon Starcevich, with former Dogs defender Marcus Adams named for his long-awaited club debut following knee trouble.

Young gun Alex Witherden is also back after missing the win over Melbourne due to a virus.
