Cornes (sprained AC joint) and Salopek (dislocated shoulder) both appeared to be long-term casualties after coming from the field on Saturday night, but the club is confident the duo will only miss between one and three weeks.
Power assistant coach Jason Cripps said he expected the resilient pair to be back sooner rather than later.
“From all reports both injures are better than we first thought,” Cripps said on Monday.
“Both will obviously miss this week and then it will just be an ongoing assessment.”
Promising first-round draft pick Hamish Hartlett (hamstring) and veteran Josh Carr (hip) are both expected to be available for selection this week.
The Power are looking to be more physical against Richmond on Sunday, training with Jiu Jitsu stars Greg ‘Clanger’ Kleynjans and Kane Gehling on Monday.
The Tigers, like Port Adelaide, have produced both highs and lows this season and Cripps said inconsistency was an issue afflicting the majority of the league.
“I reckon if you look at the competition, apart from Geelong and St Kilda we’re like everyone else,” Cripps said of his side’s inconsistency. “It’s a very ruthless and even competition.
“At the moment, we’re probably a fair way off [Geelong and St Kilda]. In saying that, on any given day we think we have the personnel to be competitive against those teams, if we bring the right level of intensity and effort from 22 all players.”
Cripps, despite rationalising the Power’s fluctuating form, said changes would be made if inconsistency remained a feature of his side’s game.
“In the last six weeks, Josh Carr has been dropped and so has David Rodan. We’re certainly not going to tolerate too many inconsistent performances, but in saying that, the week before against the Crows we thought we had 22 players that performed to the level we expect,” Cripps said.
“On the weekend, we didn’t get that in the first half. We got it on the second half, so we’ll keep working through that and if players are inconsistent for longer periods, they’ll go out of the side.”
