Jonathan Brown added two more awards to his ever growing trophy cabinet at the AFL Players Association Most Valuable Player awards in
Brown received the coveted Robert Rose Most Courageous Player Award with 151 votes ahead of six-time award winner Glenn Archer (109) and Geelong’s Jimmy Bartel (100), becoming only the club’s second recipient of the award after Michael Voss took it home in 2001.
In his second win for the night, Brown was also the player’s choice as the AFL’s Best Captain with 184 votes ahead of Sydney’s Brett Kirk (108) and Chris Judd (53). He joins fellow club legends Voss (2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004) and Paul Roos (1992) as previous winners of the award.
Brown fell short of a hat trick of awards when
Brown was a clear second with 139 votes while Daniel Kerr (48), Matthew Pavlich (32), Chad Cornes (32) and Brent Harvey (24) rounded out the top five.
Meanwhile, teenage Lions ruckmen Matthew Leuenberger finished fifth in the Best First Year Player, securing six votes from his peers.
Brown has enjoyed the most fruitful individual season of his career having already won the 2007 Coleman Medal and been named as the All-Australian Vice-Captain. He will have to wait until Saturday 6 October to see whether he can claim his first ever Club Champion award.
