EMBATTLED Melbourne coach Mark Neeld's job is safe ... for now.
The Demons faced a day of scrutiny on Monday with media camped outside their club while a 2pm board meeting dragged through the afternoon.
Following the meeting, the club announced Neeld would continue as coach but declared changes to the football department would happen. The Demons also confirmed interim CEO Peter Jackson would continue in the role until at least 2014.
After presiding over another heavy loss (by 95 points to Hawthorn) on Sunday, Neeld, along with Neil Craig, Todd Viney and Josh Mahoney, made their usual presentation to the club's board at the MCG meeting.
Jackson presented his early recommendations following his first month in the role of CEO, which included a "number of changes" he believes are "required to take our club forward".
A statement released by the club and president Don McLardy just after 5pm read: "In coming weeks and months we will seek to change the structure of the football department as well as a number of other aspects of our business.
"Our on-field performances have not met expectations this year and everyone in the football department continues to face ongoing assessment in their roles as do those employed in other areas of the club.
"The club will make no further comment at this time, in relation to the senior coach position."
The club also confirmed Jackson - initially hired on a six-month deal - had agreed to stay in the role until at least the end of 2014.
Neeld left AAMI stadium about 5pm amid continued speculation about his future as coach.
ABC Radio were even reporting that he had been sacked.
But the public was soon enough reassured that the coach's words from Sunday were consistent with the board's thinking.
"We've got a really clear vision of where we're going, we've got a really clear pathway that we're following, and we haven't hidden that from anybody. We believe we're assembling a really good list that will take us forward," Neeld said on Sunday.
