JYE CALDWELL has become the fifth Greater Western Sydney player to request a move in six weeks after nominating Essendon as his preferred home on Thursday. 

The uncontracted Caldwell informed the Giants that he wishes to seek a move back to his home state of Victoria and will take up a lucrative contract with the Bombers.

It's understood Essendon edged out St Kilda for his services.

Caldwell's decision is yet another hammer blow for the Giants and comes just three days after gun restricted free agent Jeremy Cameron told the club of his desire to move to Geelong next season.

The Giants had increased their offer to Caldwell to four seasons in the wake of losing Zac Williams (Carlton), Aidan Corr (North Melbourne) and Jackson Hately (Adelaide), but it wasn't enough to convince him to stay.

"Jye has informed us that he would like to return home to Victoria," Giants football boss Jason McCartney said in a statement.

"We had tabled a very competitive offer for a second-year player but we’ll now work to facilitate a trade that will provide a strong result for our football club."

Caldwell, 20, played nine games this season to take his career tally to 11 across two years at the Giants.

He was regarded as one of the best midfielders in the 2018 NAB AFL Draft but slipped to pick No.11 after multiple hamstring setbacks.
