The AFL today announced it had begun the executive search process to appoint a new General Manager, Football Operations.
Acting AFL Chief Executive Officer Ray Gunston said the AFL is committed to a thorough process, ensuring it can unearth the best candidate, man or woman, to lead the game’s football operations department across both the AFL and AFLW.
Mr Gunston said the AFL is officially accepting expressions of interest via the AFL website, ensuring an appointment would be made in the latter part of this year, with no set timeline for its completion.
The General Manager Football Operations position is responsible for the management of the AFL and AFLW Competitions. The key aspects of the role include:
· Ensuring all AFL and AFLW matches are delivered in accordance with AFL Rules and Regulations.
· Overseeing the delivery of National AFL Talent programs to develop and support the best male and female players, coaches and umpires.
· Overseeing AFL Umpiring to ensure the game is well officiated.
· Leading a large, high performing team across the following portfolios:
Talent pathways
AFLW
Player Education and Welfare
Ground Operations
Coaching
Umpiring
Laws of the Game, Match Review Panel and the AFL Tribunal

Acting General Manger Football Operations Andrew Dillon will remain in the current position for as long as required until a new General Manager was employed.
