After being unlucky to miss out on a spot in the All-Australian team in 2009, Hamish McIntosh had plenty of incentive to improve this year with Todd Goldstein knocking on the door for the number one ruck position.

There was friendly, but intense competition between the pair which brought out their best. The pair quickly became one of the most reliable and damaging ruck combinations in the league.

At times, McIntosh wasn’t able to have as big an impact on matches as he would have liked, but he was a consistent performer and only missed two matches due to a shoulder injury.

He provided plenty of trouble for opposition defenders when he went forward, kicking goals in 11 of his 20 matches.

While he didn't quite live up to the standards of his 2009 season, McIntosh still record a top ten finish in the Syd Barker Medal.

AFL.com.au’s Steve Lavell says:
Flirted with his form of 2007 but lacked the consistency needed in the No.1 role. Strong overhead, has a good engine and can do damage in the forward line. Finished the season well. Just needs to get angry.

Highlights: Round v 16 v Richmond - 20 possessions, 18 hit-outs

Round 19 v Fremantle - 26 possessions, 11 marks, 2 goals
