Female army veterans of numerous campaigns will be honoured during a pre-match commemorative ceremony prior to the Sydney Swans’ clash again the Geelong Cats on Saturday night at ANZ Stadium.

The ceremony will include a performance by an Army Band and a vehicle cavalcade of veterans around the main oval.  Along with military escorts for the approximately 40 veterans, Major General Elizabeth Cosson will be in attendance to acknowledge the service of female veterans.

Ahead of the weekend’s ceremony, Amy Taylor made the trip out to the Sydney Cricket Ground to meet Tadhg Kennelly and Tom Harley.  Amy is the NSW President Australian Women’s Army Service Association and the Chairman of the Council for Ex-Service Womens Association.

Since 2002 the Sydney Swans and the AFL, in collaboration with the Department of Veteran Affairs and the Australian Defence Force, have paid tribute to military veterans prior to a football match.

The first tribute ceremony occurred in 2002 to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the 1942 Kokoda campaign.  This will be the first time a tribute match will be played in honour of former and current Australian female serving members.
