The Cats are unlikely to regain star defender Corey Enright (ankle) for Saturday night's big clash with West Coast at Simonds Stadium, but they will have the option of bringing back Taylor Hunt, who has served his suspension. Key forward Josh Walker put his hand up for a recall by kicking four goals in a best on ground performance against Bendigo Gold in the VFL on Friday night. Draftee Jake Kolodjashnij was also among Geelong's best players in that game. Small forward Lincoln McCarthy is another player pushing for selection. He was a late omission from the Cats' AFL side that beat Collingwood on Saturday after falling victim to the dreaded "team balance". - Adam McNicol

Things are starting to click along nicely for the Giants, with the seniors winning their second game in three attempts this year and the reserves knocking off the Sydney Swans. Kristian Jaksch, Tim Golds, Mark Whiley and Liam Sumner, who have all tasted senior football prior to this year, stood out for the seconds and are doing their best to knock down coach Leon Cameron's door. No.1 draft pick Tom Boyd also took a strong mark and kicked truly from 50m late in the fourth quarter to help seal the eight-point victory as he moves closer to his AFL debut. It will be hard for Cameron to make too many changes this week, however, to his winning team. Lachie Whitfield (foot) is one who will come back in if he can prove his fitness.  - James Dampney

The Hawks have a number of senior players either knocking on the door for selection or edging closer to full fitness. Captain Luke Hodge will be the headline inclusion to take on Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium. Hodge (groin) wanted to play in last week's 58-point demolition of Fremantle, but coach Alastair Clarkson erred on the side of caution. Ben McEvoy (calf) was a late withdrawal last Friday night and it's wait-and-see whether the ruckman flies north to face the Suns. Norm Smith medallist Brian Lake's three-game suspension from the Grand Final has finally ended, but he is battling a calf issue and won't be rushed. When Lake returns it will be through the VFL for Box Hill, where best on ground Ben Stratton (hamstring/calf), Brad Sewell (hamstring) and Ryan Schoenmakers (ACL) impressed in their comebacks from injury last Saturday. Stratton is the most likely of the trio to push for an immediate AFL recall. Derick Wanganeen, Luke Lowden and Mitch Hallahan also stood out in the win over Werribee, but forcing their way into the unbeaten Hawthorn side will be tough. - Travis King

Chris Dawes could go straight into the senior team on Sunday against Carlton, as he appears ready to play after missing the start of the season with calf problems. With Melbourne bereft of tall targets, it might have to roll the dice and play him immediately but it would be a huge risk given his recent battles with soft tissue injuries. Colin Garland is also in contention to return from an ankle injury that required an operation. Despite a lack of match practice, his experience would be invaluable. Neville Jetta played well for Casey Scorpions but the rookie is not eligible to play senior football without being elevated to the senior list, which Melbourne won't do this week. Jack Trengove enjoyed a run-around at VFL level and that freshen up might continue for another week while Jordie McKenzie looks ready to take a senior spot. Mitch Clisby played well in the backline and will challenge for the small defending role while Mark Jamar got through the game but remains a couple of weeks away. Sam Blease is on the edge of selection and kicked the winning goal for Casey against Essendon on Sunday at Windy Hill. - Peter Ryan

North is confident vice-captain Jack Ziebell (shoulder) will be fit to resume against the Sydney Swans this Sunday, but will have to replace utility Jamie Macmillan (fractured fibula). The Roos could look to veteran defenders Michael Firrito and Scott McMahon, after the duo impressed for Werribee against Box Hill last Saturday. Liam Anthony is also likely to be considered. The prolific midfielder did not play last weekend given North Ballarat's bye, but was an emergency for the Roos against Port Adelaide. North is unlikely to make many other changes given its impressive win over Port. - Nick Bowen

The Saints have lost Sam Gilbert to a recurrence of his footy injury for at least the next month but are moving closer to regaining Sam Fisher, who is listed as one week away from resuming. Jack Steven and Adam Schneider are both set for fitness tests but are more likely to return through the VFL, with Sandringham to play Box Hill on Sunday. There were some impressive performances in Sandy's win over Frankston on the weekend to give Alan Richardson some food for thought. Jack Billings kicked five goals and Tom Lee three, while Josh Bruce and Tom Simpkin were solid in defence.  - Jennifer Phelan

Coach John Longmire has been tinkering with his early-season line-up due to form and fitness issues, but the Swans are starting to have a more settled look following their first victory of the year against Adelaide. Craig Bird (calf) and Sam Reid (Achilles) were two that dropped out due to injury last week, replaced by Lewis Roberts-Thomson and Jeremy Laidler. Bird is likely to return to face North Melbourne, while Reid is currently unable to train and will probably miss the next two weeks. The Swans' forward structure should be boosted in the coming weeks by the return of Kurt Tippett. Back training after a layoff due to knee tendonitis, Tippett's workload will be increased and he is an outside chance of facing Fremantle next week. - James Dampney
