EMERGING St Kilda ruckman Rowan Marshall has recommitted to the club for another three years. 

Originally due to come out of contract at season's end, he is now signed up until the end of 2022.

It's a huge coup for the Saints, with the big man having risen to be among the more promising talls in the competition.

Despite having lined up in just 22 games throughout his career and having spent most of his time in attack before 2019, Marshall has shouldered the ruck burden exceptionally well, averaging 17 disposals, 26 hit-outs, 11 contested possessions and five clearances.

Originally recruited with the No.10 selection in the 2016 rookie draft, the 23-year-old has proven to be an astute choice, and list manager James Gallagher told saints.com.au of his delight with Marshall's decision.

"We're thrilled to have Rowan sign on for a further three years," Gallagher said.

"His performances and the way he has embraced the challenge of his new role this year is reflective of the overall attitude with which he approaches his football.  

"He's a professional, determined and passionate young man, and we believe he has a really exciting future ahead of him here at the club."

St Kilda's ruck stocks are relatively weak. Billy Longer has been underwhelming while Lewis Pierce has battled concussion for several weeks.

As a result, Marshall's breakout campaign has been critical, and he wants to continue improving.

"I've loved my time at the Saints so far and am stoked to have signed this new deal," Marshall said.

"I feel like I've really learned a lot during my time, especially the past eight months or so, and I'm excited to keep growing and learning.

"I really believe in what we're building and I'm looking forward to being part of it."
