WEST Coast has hired former Hawthorn opposition analyst John Wardrop to take on a newly created role as head of game analysis and opposition strategy.
Wardrop has been the opposition analyst in all four of the Hawks' flags under Alastair Clarkson in 2008, 2013, 2014 and 2015.
Eagles coach Adam Simpson worked alongside Wardrop while serving as an assistant coach at the Hawks between 2010 and 2013.
Wardrop returns to the Eagles were he worked as a forward scout under Mick Malthouse between 1994 and 1999.
He also served as Malthouse's opposition analyst at Collingwood for eight seasons before joining the Hawks at the start of 2008.
Eagles football manager Craig Vozzo said the club was ecstatic to add Wardrop's experience into the football department.
"John has a broad knowledge of the industry, having been involved at the elite level for more than 25 years," Vozzo said.
"He is greatly respected across the AFL and we believe he will add significant experience and expertise to our football operations and young coaching group."
The Eagles are still waiting to hear whether they will lose assistant coach Don Pyke for next season as he remains firmly in the frame for the Adelaide coaching job.
