For someone who has previously never participated in any form of online fantasy football competition, Rich enjoyed a stunning Round One debut with “Richy’s Rockets”.
His team is ranked 218th overall among the 635 competitors in the Brisbane Lions’ official Dream Team group, but more importantly, the former Rising Star scored more points than any of his nine fellow Lions players who have registered for the 2011 competition.
Richy’s Rockets scored an impressive 1,918 Dream Team points in Round One to finish narrowly ahead of Joel Patfull and Rohan Bewick’s teams who finished with 1,906 and 1,874 points respectively.
At the other end of the scale, Tom Rockliff and Josh Green have the most ground to make up after week one.
“Rocky’s Rebels” and “The Incredibles” were the two lowest scoring Lions player teams and are each ranked in the bottom 100 registered teams in the Lions’ group.
Meanwhile, “The Smithernators” - coached by Jason - lead all teams in the Lions’ Dream Team group with a whopping 2,243 points. Jason’s team finished just 12 points ahead of “The Blowtorch” who was the only other side to crack 2,200 points.
But as Senior Coach Michael Voss mentioned in his media conference last Friday, the AFL Season is a marathon, not a sprint. And the same applies to the Dream Team competition.
On the field, Jack Redden continued his fine Dream Team form from 2010 with a team-high 112 points thanks to a remarkable 13 tackles which alone netted him 52 points.
Pearce Hanley proved the major Dream Team surprise with 110 points to rank second behind Redden. Hanley collected a career-best 20 disposals, took 11 marks and laid six tackles in just his 13th AFL senior match.
