GREATER Western Sydney have welcomed Lachie Whitfield back into the fold.
Whitfield was sanctioned by the AFL in November, along with former Giants staffers Graeme Allan and Craig Lambert, for breaching rules regarding conduct unbecoming.
The 22-year-old still won't be available for selection until round eight when his six-month ban expires, but was allowed back at GWS facilities from Tuesday under the terms of the penalty.
"In terms of his training, he's prepared himself really well off his own bat in the last three or four months away from the footy club," coach Leon Cameron told Fox Footy.
"It was great that he turned up in high spirits and the players loved having him around.
"He understands that a mistake was made and we're looking forward to the future for Lachie.
"We feel as though it's onwards and upwards for him and we can't wait to get him back into our AFL team come that mid-year mark."
The trio were investigated after Whitfield spent three days at Lambert's house, with the knowledge of Allan, in an alleged bid to avoid a possible drug test, which is a violation of the anti-doping code.
The threesome were sanctioned by the AFL, with the penalties ticked off by ASADA, and the club was also fined $100,000 and penalised 1000 draft points.
Cameron said the club had done its best to support Whitfield through testing times and would continue to do so.
"He'll obviously be at our footy club now and participating in our program to the levels that he can, so that's going to help him," he said.
