COMING in to his third season as an AFL coach, Ross Lyon is well aware of the expectation that follows him and St Kilda.

A fourth-placed finish last year was an impressive return for a side that didn’t make finals in 2007 but in a revealing interview with saints.com.au, Lyon says he is looking for his side to take the next step.

“This group has reached three prelims in five years. We’ve turned over 50 per cent of the list since I’ve been here and a lot of that has been forced with the retirements of a lot of players,” he said.

“It’s significant but in saying that, the aim is to finish top four.”

In a four-part Q&A series, Lyon speaks candidly about the St Kilda list, the need for a mid-sized forward, his frustration at criticism of the team’s gameplan, midfield life post-Robert Harvey, support from the club board and how it feels to be following Grant Thomas.
