As part of the Hawks’ Follow us in finals offerings, defender Josh Gibson will be writing a weekly finals diary on hawthornfc.com.au, sharing insights into training, home life and happenings around the Club.

It’s a big challenge coming up against Collingwood this week, but the boys are up for the task.

We came out of Friday night pumped after getting over Sydney. It was an awesome result and the boys were stoked - we had our first finals win since 2008, and it was pleasing to get into a Prelim this weekend.

Saturday morning we did our regular recovery at the Club - everyone pulled up well out of the game which was great. I had a cruisy night watching the West Coast v Carlton match - what a game - it was so well fought.

On Sunday a few of the guys participated in On the Boot - a fundraising event against childhood cancer.

Myself, Hodgey, Dane Swan and Harry O’Brien went into the Children's Cancer Centre at the Royal Children's Hospital for some photos with the kids which was all for a great cause. We then headed over to Glenferrie Oval for the On the Boot barbecue where I hung out with Lewie, Bud, Rough, Hodgey and Goo. It was a fantastic day and great to see so many Hawthorn supporters out there supporting a great cause.

Monday morning we had meetings and reviewed the Sydney game discussing spots to improve to make sure we bring our best against Collingwood this week. We’re not going to change our preparation too much; we’ll try to stick to our normal routine and not get too anxious and treat it like any other game.

Tuesday I was back at the Club for a full day which included our main skills session. In a word, it was 'vibrant' - it wasn’t long, but the intensity was there, the skills were clean and you could tell the boys are very excited about this week’s game.

Unfortunately there’s been no time for Grand Prix racing during the finals, I’ve had to put the car on the backburner and focus on footy, so my other career will have to wait until the season is over!

Around the Club, we’re amping up and are very excited about this week’s game. It’s my day off today so I’m taking my mind off footy altogether and will head into tomorrow’s final session clear and ready.

I think deep down everyone’s a bit nervous for Friday but that’s totally normal - there’s a genuine excitement buzzing.

We’ve worked hard all year to try and get to the grand final, and we’ve got one more step to get there.

See you all on Friday night.
