The Kangaroos are proud to support a great new initiative that encourages all Victorians to eat more fruit and vegetables in line with the recommended daily amounts.

The ‘Go for your life’ Just Add Fruit & Veg campaign has four stages, each focusing on a particular meal - breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks. Each stage has loads of simple ideas and tips that make it easy to remember how to “just add” fruit and veg each time you are preparing your favourite meal!

Our Captain Adam Simpson is one of the Ambassador’s of the campaign and he says eating well is an important part of success on and off the footy field.

“It’s easy to just add some fruit and vegetables to your favourite meals and it gives me extra energy to get through a tough day of training. My favourite is to have a big bowl of pasta with a meat sauce and crushed tomatoes, grated carrot, zucchini and mushrooms added in. I always have a banana or orange afterwards to finish the meal,” said Adam.

North Melbourne supporters can also pick up handy Just Add Fruit & Veg tip cards from the merchandise outlet at Arden Street and fruit and vegetable retailers and independent supermarkets across Victoria. Some great ideas to “just add” include:

 

Having cereal or porridge for breakfast? Just add some fresh grated apple to make it taste even better. Or try vegemite toast with mashed avocado – kids love it.

Buying lunch at the footy? Try a hamburger or souvlaki packed with salad instead of a pie or a hotdog.

 

Dinner staples like rissoles or meatloaf become more nutritious and also extend further for a hungry family if you add in some grated carrot and zucchini.

If you like snacking on a crumpet, just add some sliced banana and honey, or try chopping up some fresh fruit and adding it to yoghurt.
