Essendon's Brent Stanton is the round 20 nominee for the National's AFL Rising Star Award.

The 18 year old midfielder clinched the nomination with 16 quality touches against Collingwood last Friday, in what was just his 11th game.

He is averaging 10 touches a game and has taken 25 marks in his last five matches, and has become renowned at the Bombers for his skills above his body.

Stanton was recruited from Banyule in Melbourne's northern suburbs with Essendon's second selection at last year's National AFL Draft. Despite a year racked by back injuries and a bout of osteitis pubis, he impressed scouts from the Bombers with sime impressive performances at the National AFL Draft Camp.
