2001 PREMIERSHIP ANNIVERSARY AND SEASON LAUNCH
The past and present will be brought together in Brisbane THIS Friday 18 March 2011 when the Club commemorates the anniversary of the Lions' 2001 premiership victory and officially launch the team's 2011 AFL campaign.

The event - to be held at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre - will honour those players and coaches who helped deliver the first VFL/AFL Premiership Cup to the previously 'foreign footballing frontier' of Queensland.

Packages are currently available through the Lions' sales team by contacting 07 3335 1717 or emailing sales@lions.com.au

2011 Lions members can still purchase Maroon package tickets for just $185 - a significant discount from the $250 RRP.

FAST FOOTY FACTS (2001 PREMIERSHIP ANNIVERSARY EDITION)
16 of the 22 Lions players who were part of the Lions' breakthrough 2001 Grand Final win went on to play in three consecutive AFL premierships.

Of the 22 players from the 2001 Grand Final victory - four are still playing in the AFL (Luke Power, Simon Black, Jonathan Brown and Daniel Bradshaw), 11 have coached at some level in the AFL and three (Michael Voss, Brad Scott and Chris Scott) are current Senior Coaches.

The 2001 Grand Final triumph was the first time a Brisbane side had won an AFL Final in Melbourne. The Lions (and formerly Bears) had previously gone 0-5 in September in Melbourne.

The Lions were 4-5 after the first nine rounds of 2001 before a stirring win over reigning premiers Essendon at the Gabba kick-started a 16-game winning streak which culminated in success on Grand Final day.

Norm Smith Medallist Shaun Hart and Michael Voss each collected 23 disposals on Grand Final day to be the equal leading possession winners on the field.

Luke Power was the Lions' leading goal-kicker with three while Nigel Lappin, Jonathan Brown, Jason Akermanis, and Alastair Lynch each booted two goals.

Simon Black laid a team-high eight tackles which was double the amount of Marcus Ashcroft whose four tackles ranked him second at the Club.

Jason Akermanis became just the 10th Brownlow Medallist in AFL history to enjoy premiership success in the same year. That feat has since been achieved a further three times since by Simon Black (Lions) in 2002, Jimmy Bartel (Geelong) in 2007 and Gary Ablett (Geelong) in 2009.

Chris and Brad Scott became the AFL's third set of premiership twins when the Lions claimed the prize in 2001. Only Teddy and George Lockwood (Collingwood in 1902-03) and Alistair and Stewart Lord (Geelong in 1963) have achieved this.
