Son of Port Adelaide legend Russell Ebert, Brett was picked up via the father/son rule in the 2002 draft. The nuggety midfielder was unable to break into a strong Power side in 2003 despite some brilliant SANFL form, which saw him crowned as the Magarey Medallist. He made his debut in Round 2, 2004 in a win against the Eagles, playing predominantly in the forward line. Ebert missed out on playing in the 2004 Premiership, but continued to improve steadily before his breakout year in 2007, when he booted 56 goals to lead the Power’s goalkicking. Ebert’s strong marking and raking left boot became a feature for the Power throughout the second half of the decade.
