NICK Davis' manager hopes the forgotten Sydney Swans forward has not played his last game of AFL football – and thinks he could even take the field again in the red and white.

Lance Thompson says Davis, one of the heroes of the Swans' 2005 premiership, still has a lot to offer any club and was waiting anxiously to discover what his future held.

As AFL trade week continued on Tuesday afternoon, Thompson was expecting an update about Davis from Swans football manager Andrew Ireland.

Davis played just three senior matches in 2008 and had his year cut short when he dislocated a knee in July during a Swans reserves match.

However despite many believing Davis' career in Sydney was over, Thompson believed Swans coach Paul Roos might need him, especially with star forward Ryan O'Keefe seemingly Melbourne-bound.

"If the Swans lose O'Keefe, which I think might happen, you know Nick's obviously going to come back into calculations," Thompson told afl.com.au.

Asked if Davis had given up hope of being in a Sydney Swans jumper next year, Thompson said: "They haven't shut the door on that at all.

"You know I'm looking forward to talking to Andrew [Ireland] later on."

Davis is out of contract, and if Roos decides his time is up the Swans will try to make a trade this week.

Thompson said he thought some clubs had raised the enigmatic forward's name on the opening day of trade talks, and he was eager to learn more following discussions with the Swans' footy manager.

"Obviously we'll just weigh up all our options and just see what pops up," he said.

"I'm sure there's a club there that's thinking about Nick … if things in the trade don't go the way they're supposed to or something happens and they miss a player or something I suppose people come into calculations."

The 2008 AFL exchange period runs from October 6-10, 2008. Please note, no trades are official until paperwork has been accepted by the AFL and formally recognised after 2pm EST on Friday, October 10.
