Adelaide is a nice enough town and the Crows play finals regularly, but both were again unpopular in trade week. Recruiting manager Matt Rendell admitted there is a stigma over the city, making it tougher to attract players.

Brisbane Lions
New coach Michael Voss said the Lions would be looking to the future and they secured another pick in the coming national draft - albeit a very late one - by offloading small forward Anthony Corrie to Collingwood. But the Lions say they were going to delist him anyway.

Carlton
Spent most of the week in a deadlock with Fremantle trying to get ruckman Robert Warnock. They finally got their man and could yet secure a bigger name if they can recruit star Swans forward Ryan O'Keefe from the harbour city via the pre-season draft.

Collingwood
Were linked with O'Keefe and Melbourne's Brad Green, but missed both. Gave Rhyce Shaw his out by sending him north to the Swans and picked up Corrie for a bargain basement sixth-round pick. Not a bad week's work.

Essendon
Got midfielder Brent Prismall from Geelong at excellent value (a third-round pick). His recovery from a knee reconstruction will sideline him for most of 2009, but he is only 22. Held onto Andrew Lovett, whose disciplinary lapses remain a worry. But like Carlton and Collingwood, finished the week a winner.

Fremantle
Played hard-ball with Carlton over Warnock, but could not afford to lose him for nothing, so relinquished and got draft picks 24, 56 and 72. Also face the prospect of losing midfielder Josh Carr in the pre-season draft.

Geelong
Disappointed to lose the talented Prismall, and could not get Lovett in return. Small forward Shannon Byrnes looks set to stay, and tall forward Tom Lonergan is still in contract talks.

Hawthorn
Wanted O'Keefe, but could not satisfy the Swans' demands for a high draft pick. Were also interested in Green. No changes, but the premiership team remains intact.

Green attracted interest, but the Demons announced his re-signing today. Would have liked Warnock, but he was keen on Carlton. The wooden spooner's main focus was always going to be the NAB AFL Draft, where they have the prized first pick.

North Melbourne
Midfielder Daniel Harris was keen to go but stayed, forward Corey Jones did not attract much interest and ruckman Hamish McIntosh was shopped around and then withdrawn. A confusing week for the Kangaroos, which ended as it began.

Port Adelaide
Boosted their stocks in the third-round of the draft by sending fringe midfielder Adam Thomson to Richmond, and could yet get former premiership player Josh Carr on the cheap through the pre-season draft.

Richmond
Got Thomson for a reasonable price, which represents a win-win. Were keen on prising ruckman Mark Seaby from West Coast, but it did not eventuate.

St Kilda
Picked up the Western Bulldogs' Farren Ray for pick 31. The Saints talked up getting the former No.4 pick at the 2003 draft, but he could not command a regular place this season for the Doggies. One to watch closely.

Sydney Swans
It could be a costly off-season if the Swans lose the out-of-contract O'Keefe for nothing. Did land Shaw, but it would not be the sort of recruiting harvest Swans officials would have envisaged at the start of the week.

West Coast
Kept Seaby despite Richmond's interest. A quiet week in the west, but coach John Worsfold will be pleased to have stockpiled another three early draft picks.
