Emerging Richmond key defender Alex Rance has signed a new two-year deal with the Club.

Rance has had his best season of AFL football since making his debut with Richmond in 2009.

The 21-year-old has missed just one match, through injury, and is averaging nearly 19 possessions per game in his full-back role, combining strong defensive play with attacking run out of the backline.

“We are really pleased with the in-roads Alex has made this season.  He’s worked hard to become an integral part of our defence, and has shouldered the extra responsibility placed on him extremely well,” said Richmond’s General Manager of Football, Craig Cameron.

“Off the field, Alex is one of those extroverted characters you like having around a club and, on-field, we believe he still has a fair bit more development in him.

“We look forward to watching his progress in the coming years.”

Rance joins the list of young guns, who have made a long-term commitment to the cause at Tigerland.

Trent Cotchin, Jack Riewoldt and Dustin Martin signed contract extensions with the Tigers last year, binding them to the Club at least until the end of the 2013 season, while Dylan Grimes, Reece Conca and Brad Helbig recently re-signed until then as well.
