MELBOURNE coach Dean Bailey has confirmed Tom Scully and Jack Trengove will play as many games as possible in 2010.

Bailey said it was important that 2009's top two draftees were kept in the senior side, as long as the club managed their workloads to prevent them from being burnt out.

"It's been four or five weeks of getting the NAB Cup, to some degree, out of the way, so that we can get on with the real thing. It's going to be exciting for us and exciting for these two guys to jump on board," Bailey said from Junction Oval on Thursday.

"We're going to play them as much as we can this year and it's great to see these two young fellas put in a fair pre-season, considering where they started. They've worked really hard and they're going to be exciting to watch from this moment onwards."

Scully said he would treat his debut "like another game of footy", with a strong focus on earning respect from his teammates and helping the Dees climb off the bottom of the ladder.

"You can only earn trust to a certain extent by playing games, so to get that opportunity through the NAB Cup period and now to be selected in first game gives you another chance to build on that trust," Scully said.

"We feel we've got something to show and we don't think a lot of clubs respect where we are at the moment, but internally there is a real confidence that we've got something to prove this year and it all starts on the weekend."

Although Trengove said he was not nervous at the minute but believed nerves would surface on the eve of Saturday's clash against Hawthorn at the MCG.

"It hasn't fully kicked in yet, but I'm sure Friday night I'll be pretty nervous and might struggle to sleep," Trengove said.

Trengove said he didn't think he would receive the same baptism of fire as No.1 draft pick Jack Watts did last year (he was gang-tackled as he ran on to the ground during his debut against Collingwood on Queen's Birthday last year).

"I'd like to think Hawthorn will just treat us like every other player out on the ground - it was pretty tough for 'Wattsy' last year, but it makes it a bit easier for me having Tom here as well," he said.

Bailey added that 2008 draftee James Strauss and ex-Lion Joel Macdonald would also play their first games for the Demons against Hawthorn on Saturday.

Strauss' 2009 season was interrupted by ankle and shoulder injuries.

Tom Scully is a $157,500 midfielder in this year’s Toyota AFL Dream Team competition.

Jack Trengove is a $153,500 midfielder in this year’s Toyota AFL Dream Team competition.
