ADELAIDE has secured the signatures of two of its key players, with Scott Thompson and Richard Douglas both agreeing to terms with the club.

Thompson, 27, has played 135 games for the Crows, since switching from Melbourne at the end of 2004.

The hard-nosed onballer came third in the club’s best and fairest in 2007 and 2008 and is on track for another top-three finish this season.

Douglas, 23, struggled to make the team last year, but a move to the midfield this season has seen him deliver on the promise he showed as a first-round draft pick in 2005.

The ball magnet has played every game this season, for a career total of 76 and is also in with a chance of taking out the Crows club champion award for 2010.

After losing centre half-back Nathan Bock to the Gold Coast on Tuesday, football manager Phil Harper said the club was pleased to receive some good news.

“The club is extremely pleased that Scott and Richard have re-committed to Adelaide, after both have show excellent form this season,” Harper said.

“They are quality young men who will form a key part of our midfield over the next few seasons.”

This leaves injured forward Chris Knights as the only high-profile Crow yet to commit to the club for next season.

Earlier this month, Knights told afl.com.au he was waiting for “the right time” to start negotiating a new contract, but added that he was very happy in Adelaide and aspired to be part of the club’s leadership group.

The left-footer, who suffered a season-ending hamstring injury last weekend, originally put off contract talks until after round 22 but Harper said the Victorian’s manager had been in contact with the club this week.

“The Chris Knights one has always been a worry, but I spoke to his manager yesterday [Tuesday] and he wants to start talking,” Harper told Adelaide radio station 5aa.

“That’s always a good sign, but as I said it’s only starting to talk.”
