ADELAIDE defender Matt Jaensch will require surgery to repair a broken jaw after being attacked at an Adelaide hotel on Saturday night.

The Crows issued a statement on Sunday, saying it was 'highly likely' Jaensch would press charges over the matter.

The club is investigating the incident, which occurred at around 10pm on Saturday, and will make no further comment.

The 21-year-old enjoyed a breakout year in 2011, playing 13 games as a rebounding defender before having season-ending shoulder surgery in August.

The former rookie received an award for emerging talent at Adelaide's club champion awards presentation.

He should be fit to start pre-season training when the players return to West Lakes on November 7.
