Midfielder Josh Carr says Fremantle’s turnover count has been letting the team down, not it’s leg speed.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Carr said the team was disappointed with its occasional skill errors rather than its pace across the ground.

“When you are turning over the ball you are always going to look like you are chasing the opposition down,” Carr said.

“If you use the ball right, then it looks like they are chasing you and you seem to be looking quick.

“I think we haven’t been using the ball well and the turnovers have really cost us. I think where we turn it over has cost us as well and it usually results in a goal.

“We’ve got to get that right and that comes into this weekend against Hawthorn.

“I suppose the first six games...to only win two is pretty disappointing. But it’s a long season and the focus this week is on Hawthorn. They’re in good form and we’ve got a big game ahead of us.”

Fremantle has ensured its preparation for this weekend’s clash against the Hawks has factored suitable recovery time following last Sunday’s match against Brisbane. After playing in humid conditions with the mercury hovering around 30 degrees and flying back into Perth late on Sunday night, the team was given Monday off in a bid to freshen up for the week ahead.

“We’re making sure we’re doing everything right as far as the team goes with our recovery,” Carr said.

“I think the guys have pulled up really well considering the heat that we played in. There are no really sore guys out there or anyone too exhausted.”

Sitting fifth on the AFL ladder with four wins, Hawthorn have jumped out of the blocks this season with some inspired performances against quality opposition. But Carr is not surprised with how well Hawthorn has been playing.

“”They have got a lot of good young guys as well as the experience there with Shane Crawford and Sam Mitchell,” Carr said.

“They have got the team there. We have seen over the last couple of years that they’ve shown a lot of promise and I think they’re starting to put that together.

“It’s an important game for us. They’re in great form and we don’t want to lose another game this weekend.”

Part of the Hawks’ resurgence this season has been the development of WA product Buddy Franklin.

Coming off nine goals last week against Essendon and six the week before, Carr said Franklin was in great form.

“He’s only young and to be playing like he is, it’s a credit to him,” Carr said.

“Whoever gets him this weekend has got a big job and I’m sure our guys are looking forward to the challenge.”

With Franklin holding up one end of the ground on Sunday, Carr believed his key forward team mates Matthew Pavlich and Chris Tarrant would continue their good form that has so far seen the pair boot 33 combined goals this season.

“They have been great all year those two,” Carr said of Pavlich and Tarrant.

“They have really been playing well together and I think they have got a good chemistry.”

Bouncedown on Sunday is 2.40pm (WST). The match will be telecast live on FOX Sports 1, with Channel Seven’s WA coverage commencing at 3pm.
