WEST Coast recruit Nick Naitanui has stalled in his comeback to competitive football, reporting to Swan Districts training on Friday with a tight hamstring.

He will miss this week's WAFL reserves clash as a result.

It was planned to be Naitanui's first game since being secured by the Eagles at No. 2 overall in November's NAB AFL Draft.

Naitanui was sidelined after undergoing precautionary knee surgery in early January but coach John Worsfold said the 18-year-old was building towards full game time within three weeks and an eventual push for AFL selection.

"It's exciting for us to know that he's been back on the training track and getting ready to play," Worsfold said this week.

"We'll just keep building him up, say play 80 to 90 minutes' footy the following week and hopefully then [he's] available to play full ground time after that."

Worsfold said he was confident Naitanui would eventually show enough form in the WAFL to push for a senior debut this season and add depth to the list.

West Coast has made one change ahead of its Anzac Day clash with Hawthorn, recalling premiership midfielder Sam Butler for the injured Chris Masten (cork).

Elevated rookie Adam Cockie travelled with the side as an emergency, while Chad Fletcher remains on the cusp after missing last week's 33-point win over the Bulldogs.

The 29-year-old will play for WAFL club Subiaco on Monday.
