The tributes and honors for recently-retired Richmond champion Matthew Richardson just keep coming.

It’s been revealed that Richardson will be elevated to legend status in the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame at its gala dinner on July 2.

The Tasmanian State League has also announced that it will strike an annual Matthew Richardson Medal for the competition’s Rookie of the Year.

‘Richo’, who played junior and senior football with Tassie club Devonport, before joining the Tigers, was inducted into the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame in 2005.

He will join fellow Richmond Team of the Century members, Royce Hart and Ian Stewart, as legends in the Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame.

Former St Kilda full-back, Verdun Howell, who also is a Tasmanian Football Hall of Fame inductee, was Richmond’s reserves coach from 1969-71 and filled in as the Tigers’ senior coach for one game, in 1970, when Tommy Hafey was coaching the Victorian State team.
