IF ST KILDA coach Ross Lyon is at all concerned about the approaching season, he is doing a good job of disguising it.

The Saints coach rested many of his stars in Friday night’s intra-club match at Linen House Oval, but it seems just about all of them should be fit for the season.

Lenny Hayes, Luke Ball, Nick Riewoldt, Max Hudghton, Jason Gram, Brendon Goddard, Adam Schneider and Sam Gilbert all watched on as the probables took on the possibles.

Lyon said it was important not to be too carried away with form and injuries in February.

“We’ve really got to put it in context,” Lyon said.

“There’s a bit of ‘he’s up and running’ and ‘he’s flying’ but the reality is we’ve just played 80 minutes amongst ourselves and half of Casey (Scorpions) is playing.

“We got through injury-free and we got rid of the cobwebs. That’s really where it sits.”

Lyon denied any suggestion his stars were under an injury cloud.

Riewoldt should be available for the first week of the NAB Cup but for several reasons was unavailable for the intra-club game.

“He had a bit of a stomach thing today and a little bit of a corkie, just a couple of niggles,” Lyon said. “We like to keep him for the bigger games.”

As for Ball: “He’s running really good times and we’re excited about where Luke’s at. You won’t see him for another couple of weeks,” Lyon said.

Of those who did take the park, Leigh Montagna was a force early on in the middle, while Justin Koschitzke and Fraser Gehrig looked in good form up forward, with Koschitzke the focal point in attack.

Youngster Jarryn Geary was also impressive and is a chance to make his debut next week against Richmond at Telstra Dome.
