I’VE been thinking about my season so far and there have been a few ups and downs, but I’ve stuck at it and trained hard and done what the coaches have asked most weeks.

I am surprised how many games I’ve played so far after being drafted last year.

I made a promise to my dad and mum and my oldest brother - I’m not sure if they remember, but it was that I would play my first game of AFL as soon as I got drafted, which I did.

So I was very happy with that, and I didn’t expect to play as many games as I have.

And hopefully I will play a bit more, and play more than my cousin, Neville Jetta, did in his first year with Melbourne, which was 15…that would give me one up on him!

A few more games and I’ve got him…

But it’s true that some things haven’t really gone as I would have wanted.  Such as my kicking for goal …

So against Melbourne I got this handball from Goodesy. It was in the first quarter and he marked it near the goals. I just took one look at him and didn’t expect him to handpass it to me, to tell you the truth, so he caught me off guard.

And when he handpassed I thought, “Stuff , I have to kick this goal now!’

He gave me the easiest one you can get and I kicked it and I was thinking, ‘Yeah it is going to go through’. It went straight, it was going through the goals and then it just turned, and I’m thinking, ‘Not again, not again, turn back the other way’. But it hit the post …

I looked at Goodesy and he looked down and I felt terrible...

It could not have got any easier than that. I watched the vision and I could have just dribbled it along, I could have kicked it hard, but I don’t know what happened really. I think a blind man could have kicked it to tell you the truth.

Anyway, I’m just trying to do what the coaches want each week. They’ve asked me to take the game on and grab the ball and back my pace. I’m skinny, so I’ve just got to say, chase me and catch me if you can.

Stuey Maxfield is always saying to back myself and take them on a bit more, and I’ve learnt plenty of new things. The boys tell me that instead of running straight, run in a snake shape.

It has been a bit hard to adjust from being with all my family in Bunbury, but here at the Club I’m in my comfort zone, I’m comfortable and relaxed here.
