WITH four rounds down, and the bye this weekend, I think it an appropriate time to take a moment and look at some of the highlights from the season so far:

Milestone

Jarrad McVeigh played his 150th game against West Coast in round three. In doing so he qualified for life membership of the football club, and a large photo is placed in the match day warm up area sitting alongside all the other life members (Barry Round, Andrew Dunkley, Matthew Nicks, Paul Kelly etc). I can’t confirm if this is true or not, but I heard word that he asked for a photo of his head to be stuck on a photo of Daniel Bradshaw’s body so it looks like he’s got massive guns.

Retirements

Craig Bolton retired just prior to round one. However, Craig is showing signs of what I call “Kieren Jack-like behaviour” as he still returns to the club on the days when the club provides a free lunch.

Jumper Presentation

Prior to round one, the 2011 Guernsey Presentation took place at the Hilton Hotel. Stuart Maxfield presented the jumpers to all first year players and likened 2010 draftee Luke Parker to “a young Dan Hannebery”. As Dan Hannebery is only 20 there were a lot of guys, myself included, thinking about how old that makes us.

World Records

Jude Bolton laying 19 tackles against West Coast was an incredible effort and a ‘world record’. This award can sit next to his Logie award-winning acting performance in the ad he filmed with Nick Malceski for club corporate partner, Telechoice.  Click here to see Jude and Nick's fine work!

Super-sub

The super-sub has been brought in and Gary Rohan’s ability to create havoc coming on late in the past two games has been sensational. Word has got around that he has worn the super-sub vest so much he now has a tan line in the shape of the vest. However, I know this to be untrue as Gary doesn’t tan.

Friday Night Football

For as long as I can remember (which isn’t actually saying much) we haven’t played Friday night football in the home and away season. This all changes next Friday week, April 29, when we play Carlton under lights at the SCG. It will be a massive game and we’re hoping for packed house.

So, that’s just a few notable awards from the season so far. We’ve planned two weeks of good training on the track to refine our skills before our next game against Carlton. Hope to see you there.

Have a good Easter,

Ted Richards
