Wow, what a thrill last weekend was.
There’s nothing better than winning a close game in front of a packed crowd at your home ground.
I’m sure many of you kick the ball around in the backyard and dream of kicking the winning goal in an AFL game. I know I did.
So it’s all a bit like a dream to think that it happened to me for real on Saturday night.
The lesson in that for you all is that dreams do come true, so don’t be afraid to dare to dream.
I know Braddy used to talk in his column about never, ever giving up during a game, and that was highlighted in our win over Collingwood.
A lot of people thought we were gone in the last quarter but we never conceded in any contest.
I have got a lot of admiration for my teammates with they way they threw themselves around and were so determined to put their bodies on the line for the team.
That is the way that it has to be if you are going to be a good team, and there were some fantastic signs in that regard.
Anthony Corrie was one in particular who showed no fear or worries about his personal safety.
The way he threw himself at a 50-50 ball on the ground and collided with a Collingwood player, you would have thought ‘Nuxy’ was going to be in real trouble.
But as many of your junior or school coaches will have constantly told you, the harder you go at the ball, the more likely it is that you won’t get hurt. And he didn’t.
It all makes for another big game at the Gabba on Saturday night when we take on Sydney.
You might remember that Browny kicked a 55m goal just before the siren to draw the game against the Swans last time they were up here last season.
That was a great finish for the crowd, almost as good as Saturday.
There’s nothing like the atmosphere generated at a footy game, so all you Queenslanders get yourselves along for a look.
If you can’t, you can still catch the game on Channel 10.
See you there.
