Nick Riewoldt participated in the 2010 AFL Captains Day today at Etihad Stadium, as he showed his pride as leader of the red, white and black once again this year.

Starting his third consecutive year as sole Captain of the Saints, Riewoldt was certain that with the determination to improve, the season ahead would be an exciting one for Saints fans. Showing his belief in the current squad, which is filled with both experience and youth, Riewoldt told the waiting media;

“We’ve got a lot more experience after what we went through last year, and we’ve got some young kids coming up. We’ve got real depth this year, which is going to provide a lot of competition for a spot (in the side).”

“The players have been very focused all pre-season. Every team’s going to improve, including us, and I think we’re in a great position for the season.”

With the official AFL Season Launch being held this evening at Crown Casino, Riewoldt was pumped for the 2010 season and explained that he hasn’t had much to do as Captain to get the other players just as excited.

“I haven’t had to do much to keep the boys motivated during the pre-season (as Captain), we all want to do one better than last year and I think that’s motivation enough.”

“You’ve got two hours from every week to go out and compete, and that is the most important two hours of our lives every week.”

It’s easy to say that all Saints fans are looking forward to watching that first two hours of Premiership football next Saturday night, when the boys take on Sydney at the SCG.
