IF ST Kilda's Justin Koschitzke is carrying a rib injury into Saturday's grand final, Collingwood ruckman Darren Jolly says he intends to test it out.

The pair is likely to face off at some point at the MCG, with Koschitzke tipped to do some of the Saints' ruck work after the omission of young big man Ben McEvoy.

On Friday, Koschitzke shrugged off rumours of a rib injury sustained in last week’s preliminary final win against the Bulldogs, but Jolly said he would still exert his usual physical presence to test out the St Kilda forward.

“Obviously if he is carrying sore ribs I’m sure I’ll try to touch him there one way or another,” Jolly told afl.com.au during the grand final parade on Friday.

“But he’s a great player and a very courageous player, so we’ll wait and see.”

McEvoy was something of a surprise omission from St Kilda’s line-up. The youngster made way for club favourite Steven Baker, who hasn’t played since his team’s round 13 win over Geelong.

Jolly, however, didn’t seem convinced the Saints would line up as selected on Thursday night.

“It’s all a little bit of mind games at the moment,” he said.

“I’ll believe who the sides are just before the game.

“So I’m expecting obviously to line up against (Michael) Gardiner; he’s a quality player and whoever the second [ruckman] is, it doesn’t really faze me.”

Asked if he expected late changes ahead of the season decider, Jolly replied: “There might be.”

“You never know with big games like these. There’s always changes last minute, so we’ll rock up tomorrow and see what happens.”

Saturday will be Jolly’s third grand final. The former Sydney Swan tasted success in 2005 and narrowly missed out on going back to back the following year.

Both were torrid but gripping encounters, with scoring hard to come by. And the first-year Magpie predicted more of the same against the Saints, who have made kicking goals a chore for any side they have faced over the past few seasons.

“It’ll be a real slog,” Jolly said.

“Grand finals are just hard, tough contests and there’ll be plenty of stoppages [and] contested ball.

“It’ll be a real grind, so we’re looking forward to it.”
