It was the view of the AFL that the sweltering conditions forecast for the match and the days leading into the match coupled with the concern for player welfare required the game to be pushed back a further 30 minutes.
To counter the heat during the match there will be extended quarter breaks of 10 minutes, 25 minutes and 10 minutes respectively to enable both teams to leave the field at each break. The length of the quarters has been changed to 15 minutes plus time on from the usual NAB Cup quarter length of 17.30 minutes plus time on.
There will also be an increase in the number of water carriers permitted to run fluids to the players.
“We thank the AFL for their consideration,” General Manager – Football Operations Robert Shaw said.
“We would have preferred an adjustment to restrictions on interchange rotations but we’re ready to play. We move on.”
The AFL will continue to monitor conditions in the lead up to the game.
