There was no happy homecoming for Brendan Fevola when he faced his former side Carlton for the first time in Lions colours today in a NAB Challenge practice match.

The Blues stormed home with six goals in the final quarter to eventually run out 13-point winners - 14.9 (93) to 12.8 (80) - in a see-sawing encounter.

The Lions full-forward was greeted with jeers from the majority of Blues fans at Visy Park and finished the match with two goals from limited opportunities.

Fevola said while there were some early nerves about facing his team-mates, the occasion had no impact once the match began.

“It's good to get it out of the way,” Fevola said.

“You expect (that sort of reaction from the crowd). You get booed from most of the other teams anyway. It's all water off a duck's back.”

“I had the yips a bit with my goal-kicking - but these games are all about warming up. It was good to just get out there and have another run.”

Fevola was joined up forward by Lions Captain Jonathan Brown who led the team with three goals in his first official appearance for 2010.

While the Lions suffered their second straight loss of the pre-season, there were plenty of positives for Senior Coach Michael Voss to take out of the match.

In the absence of regular starting midfielders such as Simon Black, Daniel Rich and Luke Power, a number of young Lions were given greater responsibility in the middle and performed well.

Second year midfielder/forward Tom Rockliff was the team's leading possession-getter for the second consecutive week with 24 disposals while the likes of Todd Banfield, Ryan Harwood and Jesse O'Brien battled hard all day.

Albert Proud laid a team-high nine tackles in his first pre-season match for the year while Michael Rischitelli continued his good form with 19 disposals and seven tackles.

Voss would have also been pleased with the debuts of two new recruits in Matt Maguire and Andrew Raines who both made valuable contributions.

Maguire amassed 20 disposals and was solid down back while Raines (14 disposals) provided a great deal of run through the middle.

The match was marred, however, by an ankle injury to Jamie Charman early in the first term. The big Queenslander finished the match on crutches and will likely have scans on Monday to determine its severity. It was a cruel blow for Charman who had reconstruction surgery on his opposite ankle last year.

The injury forced midfielder Jared Brennan to ruck at times together with Mitch Clark who showed he had lost no touch since last year with 18 disposals and a number of trademark goal-saving marks in defence.

The Lions will now face reigning premiers Geelong next Friday in another NAB Challenge practice match at Southport on the Gold Coast.
