The Brisbane Lions AFC advises that Laurie Serafini will not be seeking re-election for his position on the Club's Board of Directors at next month's Annual General Meeting.

He retires after 14 years of outstanding service on the Lions Board.

Serafini is a Senior Consultant with Slade Group - a privately owned Executive Search company based in Melbourne - and was first appointed to the Lions Board in February 1997 following the merger between Fitzroy and the Brisbane Bears.

He is also a former player and Life Member of the Club having represented Fitzroy in 146 matches from 1977-1988.

His playing achievements include serving as Vice-Captain from 1980-82, representing Victoria on three occasions and being nominated among a shortlist of full-backs for Fitzroy's Team of the Century.

Serafini said his decision to step down would provide an exciting opportunity for the Club to appoint a new Board member.

"After 14 years as part of the Club's Board of Directors, I felt now was a good time to pass the baton onto some new blood," Serafini said.

"The Club has already made several key appointments during the off-season, with more to come, and I'm really looking forward to a big season next year."

"I have personally enjoyed a long association with the Club since I began as a player in 1977 and have loved every minute of it. The hat-trick of premierships from 2001-2003 was just unbelievable!"

"Also, having been able to represent the old 'Royboys' on the field and more recently contributing towards the merged Brisbane Lions has been particularly satisfying," he said.

"I will continue to strongly support the Lions and intend to remain involved with the Club in some capacity in Victoria."

Lions Chairman Angus Johnson said Serafini had made an outstanding contribution during his tenure on the Lions Board.

"Laurie has been a valuable member of the Board of Directors since the Brisbane Lions' inaugural season and the entire Club wishes him well," Mr Johnson said.

"He has been a key figure in Victoria following the merger and will forever remain an icon of our proud Club."

Meanwhile, Lenard Poulter nominated for a position on the Board of Directors and was duly appointed to fill the vacancy in accordance with the Club's Constitution.

"It's a wonderful coup for this Club to have someone as highly respected and successful in the business world as Len Poulter join our Board of Directors," Mr Johnson said.

Poulter is the Founding Director of award-winning food retail franchise Lenard's which has operated successfully in Brisbane since 1987.

He has spent more than 40 years in the food industry and is one of Australia's most experienced specialty retailers.

Poulter has also enjoyed a long association with the Lions as a valuable member of the Lethal Lions coterie group since 2002.

"I am delighted with the opportunity to join the Lions Board and look forward to involving myself further in specific Club matters," Poulter said.

"There have certainly been some exciting changes at the Club recently and hopefully I can make a valuable contribution acting on behalf of our members and supporters."
