The AFL seems to be promoting the grassroots level of football this week. How important is the grassroots to an AFL player? – Jeremy Cameron

Jeremy, the grassroots are incredibly important. Every player at Geelong has come through a junior club on their way to AFL level. The people that run junior clubs do it for the love of the game, mostly without payment, and without them grassroots football would not exist. When you think of the number of kids that play footy every week, it shows just how important the game is. It is easy to look at the AFL level and forget about the thousands of people playing the game at all levels.

Do you think your boys in hoops will get up over the Blues? Will Josh Hunt and David Wojcinski be playing next week? – Ang Price

SK: We’ve played well for the past month and expect to play well against the Blues. As for Josh, he copped a whack on his shin against the Eagles and could return this weekend. Dave Wojcinski was playing well before his missed the Hawthorn game with a slight ankle problem and he came back through the VFL last weekend. He would be a chance for Sunday.

I am a member of the cheer squad and was wondering – do you like us cheering you on and would you like other supporters to join in? Can you hear us while you are playing? – Kel Mayne

SK: We are very appreciative of the cheer squad, and yes we do hear the support while we are playing. I got a lot of e-mails last week after the players went to the cheer squad after the Hawthorn game, and I think that was a good sign of how much we appreciate the support. Keep cheering.

I am interested to know how Marc Woolnough is travelling at the moment. Can he get back to the top level? – Troy Finn

SK: Marc has done a tremendous job to get back to football after the setbacks he has endured with his knee injuries. He had a slight setback a few weeks ago but is back playing well in the VFL at the moment. He is continuing to work hard and has a determination to get the most that he can out of his career.

Does what day you play matter? – H.W Hood

SK: It doesn’t really matter too much. Once the draw comes out we have a schedule for the year, so we know exactly what the routine will be. As players we are used to playing on Friday, Saturday or Sunday with games starting between 12:40 and 7:40pm. So ultimately it doesn’t really impact on us too much.
