Fremantle has received the 24-year-old Perth Demons best-and-fairest and pick 44 in this year's NAB AFL Draft in exchange for their pick 38.
Mzungu is a running half-back who was apparently being eyed by both the Bulldogs and the Hawks before the Dockers snapped him up.
A good performance at the state draft screening at the University of WA, where he did well in both speed and endurance, helped get him over the line.
Fremantle's general manager of player management Brad Lloyd said Mzungu, who has played more than 70 games for Perth in the WAFL, had a very consistent 2010, averaging 29 touches a game and polling 20 Sandover Medal votes.
“Tendai played most of his footy across half-back but pushed into the midfield this year and was very impressive,” Lloyd said.
“He is an exceptionally hard worker and is a very smart footballer…very clean below his knees, uses the ball very well and takes the game on with his run and carry.”
Tendai should fit right in at the port club, after saying in his 2009 draft profile that the player he most resembled in the AFL was Fremantle defender Greg Broughton.
Mzungu said at the time that he needed to work on his inside play and his defensive work, while he was happy with his ability to read the play, mark or spoil and to kick off either foot.
