KEY SWAN Amon Buchanan says the Sydney Swans’ depth will be a telling factor in the second half of the season as the Bloods look to cement a spot in the eight.

"Our depth has been kind of bolstered this year with these young blokes coming in and playing their roles. And not just playing their roles, but having a real impact," Buchanan said after the Swans thrashed Richmond by 82 points on Sunday.

Youngster Kieren Jack was once again effective for the Swans, this time in subduing Richmond’s midfield dangerman Nathan Foley.

Other younger stars such as Craig Bird (two goals; 17 disposals) and Jarred Moore were also good performers on a day when there were no bad Bloods.

"Jarred Moore’s been absolutely brilliant and has made a real impact. I think the younger guys already showed that they’ve stepped up," Buchanan said.

The Swans now sit in fifth on 26 points with a 6-3 win-loss ratio (and one draw). And with the best percentage figure in the league (136.45%), the season is looking promising after 10 rounds.

"It’s a long year but they’ve [the youngsters] just got to keep doing the job and finish off the year. That’s been a real strength so far and now we have a lot of depth," Buchanan said.

With storied spearhead Barry Hall due back for the St Kilda match in two weeks’ time, Nick Davis, Ed Barlow, Jesse White, Nic Fosdike, Heath Grundy and Ben Mathews are also knocking on the door of selection.

"There’s pressure on blokes to hold their spot each week and blokes on the fringe, they’re ready to go," Buchanan said.

The strongly built attacking midfielder has shored up his own spot over recent weeks with valuable goal tallies. Three against the outclassed Richmond on Sunday meant the 25-year-old has contributed eight goals in the last four rounds (10 for the season).

"I suppose my role has changed a little bit, and I’m up forward a little more… I played a lot as a junior in the forward line so I enjoy it and make a contribution.

"My goal at the start of the year was to play a little more consistently. I’ve got a bit to work on and a fair way to go to take my game to the next level."

Jarred McVeigh and Michael O'Loughlin, in his 300th game, also kicked three goals on Sunday in the easy win over the Tigers.

"We got an even contribution across the forward line. It’s working good and we get [Barry] Hall back in a couple of weeks which should set us up for the back half of the season."
