PORT ADELAIDE star Chad Cornes says hewon’t be engaging in any mind games heading into Sunday’s heavyweight clashwith Geelong.
Coach Mark Williams tried to plant a seedof doubt in the Cats’ camp by recalling his own experience with premiershipfavouritism, but Cornes said he’d save his talking for the field.
"I don't want to play any mind gameswith Geelong,” hesaid.
“I think Choco [Williams] did that, sowe'll leave that to the coach.”
The Power were still coming down from thehigh of beating Hawthorn at the club’s recovery session on Monday morning.
Cornes said the five-point victory wouldserve as a great confidence-booster leading up to the game against thewhite-hot Cats.
"Our belief grows every week and aclose win like that will build it even more. We said all along that we didn'thave great expectations going into this year and we've exceeded all themalready,” he said.
"I heard a few of the boys saying itwas one of their favourite wins and best wins they'd been involved in. It'sabout time we won one of those close ones.”
The win catapulted Port Adelaide intosecond spot on the ladder, level with West Coast, but a game clear of othertop-four hopefuls Hawthorn, Collingwood and the Kangaroos.
Cornes was still coming to terms with theclose nature of the competition, but said the Power were well placed for adouble chance and home final.
"It doesn't feel like we're in secondspot. It’s just such a tight year and there are so many teams around the mark.It doesn't feel like we've had that great a year, but it's great to be insecond spot and we'll take it,” he said.
"We’d love to make top four. You knowhow much of a bonus that is come finals time, so lots of teams are stillpushing for it. It makes this week super-important, and then the game againstFreo just as important as well.
Cornes showered Geelong with praise and said Sunday’s gamewould be the ultimate test for the young Power side.
"I don't watch much footy, but whatI've seen of Geelongthis year, they're just playing some of the best footy I've seen played in mytime. They're amazing all over the ground, so hopefully the coaches are busyplanning and we'll have a meeting today and a big build-up this week."
