The Richmond Football Club, in partnership with the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority, is branding the Round 14 clash at the MCG between Richmond & Sydney to support Landcare across Victoria.

On July 4, 2010 for the Round 14 Richmond v Sydney match, the Richmond Football Club and the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority are partnering to promote greater awareness of GippsLandcare and Landcare in Victoria.

This Landcare branded football match at the MCG (2.10pm) is a fantastic opportunity to get the Landcare message to the 40,000 plus Richmond members and the wider football public.

“It is an exciting opportunity to engage and involve a lot more people, through the reach of the Tigers and AFL Football,” CEO of the West Gippsland Catchment Authority Geoff Hocking said.

“Landcare is about communities achieving good outcomes for sustainable landscapes, healthy waterways and connected communities.  Having Richmond help raise the profile of our region’s GippsLandcare brand will promote much wider awareness that we all have an obligation to help ensure a sustainable and healthy future for all.”

Richmond CEO, Brendon Gale said: “We are very pleased and proud to be in partnership with the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority.  We hope that we can help to raise awareness of Landcare in Victoria, leaving our landscape in a better condition for upcoming generations.”

Landcare began in Victoria in 1986, with a group of farmers near St Arnaud in central Victoria forming the Landcare group.  Since then, hundreds of groups have formed across Victoria with the aim of securing a sustainable future by repairing, enhancing and protecting our environment.

GippsLandcare is the brand that represents Landcare across West Gippsland CMA region. It represents five Landcare Networks, 70 Landcare groups and over 2000 Landcare families.  Working together, these people are achieving improved productivity and amenity value as well as securing a sustainable future for us all.

Landcare involves people in the following:
• Planting, Restoring and Protecting native vegetation
• Providing habitat for native fauna
• Reducing the impacts of salinity, erosion and land degradation
• Removing and controlling pest plants and animals
• Learning better ways to farm sustainability
• Leaving our landscape in a better condition for future generations
To do this Landcare needs the help of thousands of volunteers across Victoria.
