1973-83 226 games 119 goals. (b: 25 Jan 1954 191 cms 95.5 kgs). Sarau was a lion-hearted ruckman whose early football was played at St Kilda's famous nursery East Brighton. He had a stint with Sandringham in the VFA before joining St Kilda. He was the junior partner in an experienced ruck line-up but developed into a fine ruckman in his own right. Although not as tall as many of his opponents he made up with a good leap plenty of aggression and great marking power. He thrived on the responsibility of being No.1 ruckman and won best and fairest awards in 1975 and 1977. He was remarkably durable despite back problems and assorted other injuries. Sarau's philosophy was if you can run you can play. To the end of his career Sarau never gave any quarter to his opponents. He played twice for Victorian B teams and was emergency for the Vics against SA in 1982. At the start of 1984 he was stripped of his vice captaincy and the matter was badly handled by the Saints. Sarau's decision to transfer to SA club West Torrens shocked the Saints. He later coached Frankston in the VFA.
