REMEMBER when State of Origin meant the best of the 'Big V', the 'Sandgropers' and the 'Croweaters' going head to head in some of the greatest games of footy ever played?

Think the 1986 classic between WA and the Vics at Subiaco, when the lead changed seven times in the last quarter before Hawthorn great Gary Buckenara snapped the match-winning goal for the home team.

Or the day 90,000 packed the MCG to watch the Big V destroy South Australia with Tony Lockett, Jason Dunstall and Dermott Brereton side-by-side in the forward line.

Then there was Gary Ablett Snr's eight goals on debut for Victoria against WA in 1984, New South Wales upsetting the Vics at the SCG in 1990, and Ted Whitten's famous, "You stuck it right up 'em" after the Vics beat WA in the same year.

And don't forget high-leaping full forward Tony Modra putting on a show as the Croweaters pipped the Vics in front of a rabid Football Park crowd in 1994.

The video boffins at afl.com.au have dipped into the archives and found the best bits of all these memorable games for your viewing pleasure.
