On the team’s win over Melbourne on Sunday:

“You’re always happy with a 52-point win, but we were inaccurate – we had 42 scoring shots and on that basis we could have had a bigger win. But we certainly did a lot of things right except for the final finishing.”

“We generated the shots. If you have a shot on goal once in every two entries into the forward line – that’s about average. So we were slightly better than that. “

“I think it was good tune-up to be honest. We’ve had five really hard-fought games and I think it was good in the last quarter to know that we were probably going to win.”

“In the last quarter I was thinking ‘how we could turn this 7-8 goal margin into a 15-goal margin?’ But you only think about percentage when you have already won the game so the last 10-15 minutes was a bit disappointing in terms of the margin.”

“Given that the game was relatively won half way through the last quarter and it was a warm day, both sides looked as though they were out on their feet a bit. I don’t think the accountability in the midfield was great and if they got the ball, they had plenty of spare midfielders.”

On Rhan Hooper:

“Today was certainly one of his best contributions. And he made his contributions early when the game was being won.”

“We’ve been doing a lot of work with Rhan on his finishing and he’s starting to get a bit more confidence in front of goal.”

“Today he was good in front of goal, but he hasn’t necessarily been a good converter from the chances he creates. He basically rushes himself too much so we’ve been doing a lot of work with him at training to make sure that he gets used to kicking goals in rushed situations.”

“Goal kicking is always as much about confidence as it is about technique. If you believe you can kick it, then there’s a better chance that you will.”

“He’s two months late, but he has now got his condition to a level where he can maximise his speed.”

“Rhan is very lucky because if he runs five metres with the ball, there’s probably going to be no one that’s going to catch him because he’s got such speed. Once you’ve accelerated and you’re clear for five metres – that’s what the great advantage speed is. But you have to make sure not to rush yourself and keep your balance on those last few kicking strides.”

“Anthony Corrie was also very good I thought. He’s been pretty good for most of the year. He’s going well.”

“Both he and Rhan have got leg speed and you need that leg speed within any team really to keep up with the speed of the game.”
