On Saturday 29 September 2001, the Brisbane Lions' 26-point Grand Final triumph over reigning champions Essendon at the MCG earned the Club a place in history as the first team ever to deliver a VFL/AFL premiership cup to the previously 'foreign footballing frontier' of Queensland.
The achievement further solidified the union forged between two proud clubs - Fitzroy and the Bears - who battled adversity separately, before celebrating the ultimate success as one merged entity.
The Club's past and present will be brought together in Brisbane on Friday 18 March 2011 as we both commemorate the anniversary of the Lions' 2001 premiership victory and officially launch the team's 2011 AFL campaign.
This event promises to be one of the largest and most decorated in Club history.
