THE AFL has announced that the NAB Cup Grand Final will now be played on the night of Friday March 13, to avoid a clash with planned benefit concerts for the Victorian Bushfire Appeal.

The AFL has been proactive in trying to raise funds for the victims of the Victorian bushfires, donating all revenue from the round one NAB Cup clash between Essendon and the Western Bulldogs to the Appeal, as well as organising a NAB Challenge derby between the West Coast Eagles and Fremantle to raise funds for the Appeal.

The AFL’s chief operating officer Gillon McLachlan said that the League did not want to clash with the key fundraising event that would be staged with the support of the music industry.

"Every section of the community is working extremely hard to make a contribution to assist those people who have been affected by the devastating Victorian bushfires," McLachlan said.

"The benefit concert at the MCG on March 14 will be another major step and the AFL has made the decision to play the NAB Cup Grand Final on Friday night, March 13, if the game is scheduled to be played in Victoria at Telstra Dome or in South Australia at AAMI Stadium."
