Threee schools attended the first School Then Play Cup in Fitzroy Crossing on Friday the 4th of November. They included Yiyilli Aboriginal independent School, Kulkarriya Aboriginal Independent School and Fitzroy Valley District High School.

All up 36 students all participated in the carnival due to an attendance record of over 80%. These students were put into three teams made up of 12 players. They represented their schools but were named the Redbacks, Dragons and Sharks and decked out in their new School then Play Jumpers.

These teams were made up of Boys and girls and the oval was segregated for the purpose of the girls getting more involved without the boys taking over. This worked out well as the girls football proved to be exciting to watch with more intensity at the footy than the boys.

A 3 round - robin competition was played with a each team recording a win. The Sharks (Kulkarriya) came out eventual winners with a higher percentage taking out the inaugural School Then Play Cup.

The Day was topped off with a scratch match at the end with all schools playing and letting the kids go anywhere on the oval. Presentations were made along with a sausage sizzle lunch. Overall the Students enjoyed the day with this program looking to be even bigger next year with more schools showing an interest in the program.
